Águila de Esperanza is a business created by Christine I. Asuquo in 2011, in partnership with Common Hope to give Spanish immersion school students who have completed sixth grade an opportunity to experience another way to learn.
Students and their adult chaperone will partner with a public school in Antigua, Guatemala to learn what it is like to go to school, live and learn in Guatemala. Students will work in classrooms in one or more public schools in Antigua, teaching lessons, helping the teacher, running morning meetings, presenting about the United States and creating lasting friendships with the Guatemalan students and staff.
The goal is for students and their parents to learn about other people and other ways of life outside of the United States and for students to use their Spanish to communicate with, interact with, and learn from other children and adults of Antigua, Guatemala. Parents will have the opportunity to take Spanish classes while their child is at the public school, so that they will be able to more fully participate in afternoon sessions with their child.
My hope and dream is for students and families alike to become more involved, effective global citizens as a result of this interaction and for everyone to have fun while being ambassadors for their countries!
